Dr. Gebhardt

Dr. Kelley Gebhardt
Position: Veterinarian/Owner

Background:  Dr. Kelley Gebhardt graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. While in veterinary school, Dr. Gebhardt worked with cardiologists in researching feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, one of the most common heart conditions of young, male cats. Because of her interest in emergency medicine and alleviating pain in pets, she devoted extra time during veterinary school to studying with emergency/critical care specialists and pain management specialists at the NC State Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Since graduation, Dr. Gebhardt has worked in both general practice and in emergency medicine. Her passion for emergency medicine inspired her and her family to open the Happy Tails Veterinary Emergency Clinic in February 2008.

Hobbies: Dr. Gebhardt is happily married to her husband, Lee Allen (Clinic Director of HTVEC). In their limited spare time, Dr. Gebhardt and Lee enjoy hiking with their dogs, mountain biking, kayaking, and spending time outdoors.

Pets: Dr. Gebhardt and Lee share their home with their five furry children – two dogs (Ruby and Nugget) and three cats (Meow Meow, Nimbus and Uno).
Dr. Allgood
Dr. Joni Allgood
Position: Associate Veterinarian
Background:  Dr. Joni Allgood graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. While in veterinary school, Dr. Allgood worked with multiple groups pursuing her interests in exotic pets, zoological, and wildlife medicine. She also worked in research pertaining to reproduction in Pallas’ cats. Dr. Allgood worked in a small animal general practice prior to moving to the Winston-Salem area where she continues to work in general practice as well as emergency medicine.  She continues to pursue her interest in diagnostic imaging and loves educating clients on how to keep their furry family happy and healthy!

Hobbies: Dr. Allgood enjoys spending time with her husband, Jon. They enjoy dancing, traveling, and cooking (although Dr. Allgood is usually her husband’s sous chef). Dr. Allgood also likes to read and watch movies and live performances.

Pets: Dr. Allgood shares her home with two dogs: Cassidy, a Chihuahua mix and Riley, a Yorkshire Terrier along with the recent addition of a kitten named Koji.

Dr. Oliver

Dr. Janine Oliver
Position: Associate Veterinarian

Background:  Dr. Janine Oliver graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and from the School of Physical Therapy at East Carolina University in 1987. She practiced human physical therapy for 12 years prior to pursuing her studies in veterinary medicine, focusing on neurology and geriatrics. While in veterinary school, Dr. Oliver worked as an ICU technician in the intensive/critical care unit of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at NC State. She devoted extra time during veterinary school to studying companion animal physical rehabilitation and multi-modal pain management, veterinary nutrition, and veterinary dentistry. Dr. Oliver has worked in both an integrative general practice and in emergency medicine. Her interests lie heavily in prevention, nutrition, emergency/critical care, and in improving quality of life for geriatric animals through pain management and physical rehabilitation. She is currently pursuing advanced training in veterinary nutrition at NC State University with their Veterinary Clinical Nutrition Service.

Hobbies: Dr. Oliver enjoys spending time with her family, Audra, Patrick and their 4 dogs and 2 cats, gourmet cooking, wine tasting, particularly the reds, traveling and spending time outdoors hiking, camping and rafting. She also loves to read, especially science fiction, Greensboro’s local talent Orson Scott Card is among her favorite authors.

Pets:  Zorro, a 10 year old chihuahua; Bunny, a chihuahua-pitbull mix; Jasper, a chihuahua-beagle mix; Spock, a black lab-great dane mix; EllenDegeneres, a dilute tortie cat and her son Barney a dilute orange tabby.

Dr. Pierce

Dr. Courtney Pierce
Position:  Associate Veterinarian

Background:  Dr. Courtney Pierce graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. While in veterinary school Dr. Pierce worked with surgeons researching methods of evaluating and treating chronic pain conditions in cats and dogs. She continues to have a strong interest in multimodal pain management and alternative therapies. Dr. Pierce also has a passion for veterinary volunteer work. She works locally with the Feral Cat Assistance Program and has traveled both within the US and abroad to provide care to underserved and stray animal populations. Most recently she traveled to Nicaragua to provide spay, neuter and medical services to the dogs and cats in a small fishing village. Since graduation Dr. Pierce has worked as a both a general practioner and emergency doctor in the triad area.

Hobbies:  Dr. Pierce is married to her husband Whit who is currently a law student at Wake Forest University. In their spare time they love to whitewater kayak, snowboard, mountain bike and travel. Dr. Pierce also loves to run and completed her first marathon in 2008.

Pets:  Dr. Pierce shares her small home with 3 dogs and 2 cats. Spencer is a 9 year old hound adopted from the Wake County animal Shelter, Hank is a 9 year old Beagle found as a stray, and June is a 3 year old shepherd mix who was abandoned at a gas station in Virginia. Sticky and Odetta are her two feline masters, both adopted from rescue groups.
